Marble vs Granite: Which Is Right for Your Kitchen Counter?
Both look premium — the honest difference is in daily maintenance, not looks.
Marble and granite are both natural stone, both genuinely premium, and both show up in the same photographs of beautiful kitchens — so the choice usually comes down to how the counter is actually used, not how it looks on day one.
Granite is the harder, lower-maintenance stone. It resists heat, scratches and everyday kitchen use well, and with a sealant applied every year or two it holds up to daily cooking without much fuss. If the counter needs to survive hot pans set down directly and a chopping habit that occasionally misses the board, granite is the more forgiving choice.
Marble is softer and stains more easily — lemon juice, vinegar and other acidic ingredients can etch the surface if left sitting, and it needs more careful sealing and cleaning to stay looking new. What it offers in return is a distinctive veining pattern that granite does not really match; for a kitchen where the counter is a visual centrepiece more than a daily workbench, that is often worth the extra care.
Both are real stone, so both are genuinely one-of-a-kind — no two slabs are identical, which is part of what separates natural stone from a printed look-alike.
If you are not sure which fits how your kitchen actually gets used, bring us a photo of the space and tell us how you cook — we can point you at a few slabs that suit both the room and the routine.
